The 1986 L. Ron Hubbard Death Event Video

I just posted this video as part of another post but I thought it deserved a post of its own. This is the first time I’ve seen it on Youtube where it wasn’t cut into multiple pieces. For those who are not familiar this is the event where Scientology International Management announced to church members that LRH had died (or “dropped his body” in Scientologese).

I first found out about this event video a couple of years or so ago. What I really found intriguing at the time (beyond its campiness – this is a far cry from the over the top hypnotic extravaganzas they do now) was that in all my years of involvement in Scientology I had never seen nor heard of it. I got involved back in 1990 and apparently by that time it had already been buried by Miscavige. The reason for this I learned is that Pat Broeker was reportedly chosen by LRH to take over the cult after his death. Soon after Pat disappeared and David “Slappy” Miscavige had seized control. Now it was recently revealed that Miscavige paid 2 PIs to spy on Pat for 24 years. The event is also noteworthy for all the other int management terminals that you no longer see at events such as Ray Mithoff and Marc Yeager (presumably still imprisoned at Int Base).

Anyhow it’s a fascinating and important piece of Scientology history. It’s also pretty interesting in that that it goes on and on about how LRH wrapped up his research including OT 9 and 10 (since revealed by Marty Rathbun to be a complete lie). With his work “completed” the commodore was going off to research even higher OT levels or go bang blue women Captain Kirk-style or something along those lines. Basically a bit of a vacation before returning to take everyone to target 2. Word is they’re still waiting for a funny faced little red haired kid chain smoking Kools to show up at Int Base…

If anyone involved back in 1986 has any insights about this video (I assume it was broadcast via satellite to all orgs at the time) I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
